Experienced punters now, that it often takes longer to get ready to paint, that it does to apply paint. In our eagerness to get project finished, we try to skip on surfaces preparation. But these shortcut eventually will disturb your work. There is no substitute for proper surface preparation for painting, but new tools, products available can make your preparation and cleaning much easier. After all we want a professional look to our final painting project.

When do interior painting, all surfaces inside the house in every room must be clean and fixed. Enamel surfaces, so common in kitchen and bathrooms must be washed and rough sanded. Otherwise, new paint will not stick. Fill the dimples with patching compound and sand it smooth. Repair cracks, nail holes and other damaged areas with spackle and patching plaster. Stains and marks from crayons, ink markers, rust or water damage should be sealed with a stain killer to prevent bleeding through new paint.

Use masking tape to tape edges of wood trim, windows, and other areas, that do not need to be painted. Do not forget to protect your floor while painting ceiling and walls. Cover furniture and carpet with plastic cover sheets. Choose heavy plastic sheets -- they are more expensive, but will not tear as easy. The best way to protect your lighting is cover them with plastic bags. Even the most experienced painters create some drips. Do not neglect this step and protect all surfaces, that do not need to be painted.

Select the right paint brush for your painting project. Ask for help in hardware store, if not sure. Use low-cost brash from 3M that is discarded after use. Most home painters use paint brash only once. Use paint roller for larger surfaces. Paint rollers can be cleaned after each use and can be re-used many times.
